Port Charlotte, Florida
This private practice opened in 2010 and, today, employs 2
physicians and 2 nurse practitioners, along with a robust support
staff of nurses, medical assistants, and other talented healthcare
personnel. In addition to operating a primary care outpatient
office in Port Charlotte, the practices providers round at local
skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) and sometimes follow patients
into local hospitals (where credentialed). The practice is
currently growing and is excited to welcome a new physician to
The new physician will spend approximately 50% of their time in the
Port Charlotte internal medicine office (a traditional outpatient,
private practice setting) and 50% of their time rounding at local
skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), with occasional visits to local
hospitals to follow practice patients (usually admitted SNF
residents) - hospital work is not a large component of the role.
The practice does offer some flexibility in scheduling and will
accommodate, for example, a split day between office and SNFs or
scheduling dedicated days for each setting. The
physician-owner and scheduling team will be happy to work with the
new provider in this regard.
In a full SNF day, a physician typically sees 30 - 35 patients
and is accompanied by an RN. The RN will complete all
charting via EHR on a laptop, so the physician can focus solely on
the patient visit. The RN will also prep the patients and
assist however necessary.
In a full office day, a physician sees 20 patients. These
visits are also fully supported by an RN who completes the
charting, preps the patient, etc.
If needed, the practice will arrange for credentialing at local
hospitals, so that the physician may follow admitted patients.
This is typically only relevant for SNF residents and is a
minor component of the clinical work.
In all settings, 90% or more of patients are aged 55 and
On-call is largely handled by the nurse practitioners.
There is a physician designated as the back-up, in case a
matter needs to be escalated. If the new physician would like
to participate in the on-call rotation to receive extra
compensation, the practice will accommodate that.
