Requisition No: 280422Agency: Department of HealthWorking Title: OPS LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE - 64908195 1Position Number: 64908195Salary: $17.00 per HourPosting Closing Date: 01/11/2021DESCRIPTION:This is a part-time nursing position within the Clinical Program of the Florida Department of Health in Charlotte County (DOH-Charlotte). The incumbent in this position is responsible for assisting healthcare professionals (RNs, APRNs) working in Family Planning, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI), Immunizations, TB and Refugee Health programs in delivering direct clinical services. This position requires clinical skills within LPN/LVN scope of practice, knowledge of the public health system and the professional skills to interact with health care providers and others in the community and the ability to interact with people with diverse social, economic and cultural lifestyles and characteristics. This position reports directly to the Executive Community Health Nursing Director. TB testing and certain immunizations may be required.REQUIREMENTS:Professional licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse in accordance with the Florida Statute 464. Experience working in Family Planning or STD/HIV program is preferred. Clinical experience valuable. Ability to perform venipuncture required. Possession of a valid Florida driver's license and reliable transportation required. Fluency in English/Spanish or English/Creole preferred. Current AHA certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is required.EMERGENCY DUTY: Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or perform other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat thereof, man-made or natural.MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Clinical Duties:

  • Welcomes patients; introduces patients to clinical services including Family Planning, Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) services, TB, Refugee Health, and immunizations
  • Takes and records vital signs including height, weight, temperature, heart rate and blood pressure
  • Assists clinical personnel with simple procedures such as hemoglobin screening and urinalysis
  • Initiates patient encounter form in HMS according to documentation guidelines
  • Collects and updates patient health history in HMS
  • Draws blood, collects and processes specimens
  • Sends specimens to appropriate lab
  • Assists with medication administration (oral, IM, SQ)
  • Assists TB Nurse with Directly Observed Therapy (D.O.T.) as needed
  • Accurately records all services provided in electronic format
  • Collaborates with peers to ensure optimum clinic flow, identifies challenges and works to solve problems
  • Stocks examination rooms including clinical supplies and patient education materials
  • Inventories, orders and maintains sufficient supplies for clinical operations
  • Sterilizes equipment and performs routine sterilizer maintenance
  • Assists with tracking medication inventory
  • Maintains clean and safe work environment
  • Maintains patient confidentiality in a manner consistent with Chapter 384.29, F. S., as well as current Charlotte County and Florida Department of Health policies and proceduresClerical Duties:
    • Copies, collates, and files
    • Answers phone calls, responds to patient concerns
    • Makes follow up phone calls and letters for test results
    • Reminds patients of appointments
    • Documents in the electronic health recordImmunization Duties:
      • Administers pediatric and adult immunizations according to ACIP and CDC protocols
      • Remains current with vaccine updates and ensures colleagues receive current information
      • Ensures all vaccines are entered and tracked in Florida Shots
      • Monitors and tracks vaccines lost and/or wastedOther Duties:
        • Attends team meetings and in-service trainings
        • Functions as a resource to professionals, paraprofessionals, and support staff and students
        • Submits EARS (Employee Activity Records) in a timely manner
        • Completes required TRAIN trainings
        • Performs other related duties in accordance with the needs of the organization and supervisor's instructionKNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES DEEMED ESSENTIAL TO THIS POSITION:

          • Ability to interact professionally with other DOH staff and the public and provide excellent customer service
          • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of the internet and computer systems such as Microsoft Office, and entering data into a database
          • Ability to accurately document in electronic medical records
          • Initiative: Is self-confident, motivated, and has an enthusiastic drive to perform current job duties & undertakes duties of greater responsibility
