Utility Program Consultant (Part-Time, As-Needed) Location: Florida (Statewide) Job Type: Part-Time / On-Call About Hanson Professional Services Inc. Hanson is a nationally recognized consulting firm providing engineering, planning, and allied services. We are currently seeking a part-time, as-needed Utility Program Consultant with an electrical background to support our emergency response operations in Florida. Position Overview The Utility Program Consultant will assist with the coordination of field resources and execution of utility programs, including post-storm damage assessments, in support of electric utility programs and restoration efforts across Florida. This role is ideal for experienced electrical field personnel, engineers, or licensed electrical contractors who are familiar with utility processes and can work effectively in dynamic, high-pressure environments. Key Responsibilities Respond to work issued by utility providers supporting ongoing customer programs and electrical infrastructure damage following hurricanes, tropical storms, and other severe weather events. Conduct field assessments of electrical systems, including substations, distribution lines, and service panels. Implement and follow established communication, quality assurance, program, and storm response protocols to ensure work is performed safely and efficiently. Coordinate with utility providers, emergency management agencies, utility customers, subcontractors, and Hanson project teams. Document work in accordance with program requirements, including findings, repairs, and recommendations, in detailed reports. Participate in planning activities, customer meetings as directed, and post-storm evaluations as needed. Coordinate subcontractors, as assigned, in the coordination and execution of utility programs. Demonstrate safety leadership by promoting Hanson’s Safe Work Practices and verifying that required safety protocols are appropriately documented during work activities. Required Qualifications Degree in electrical engineering or equivalent experience as a licensed electrical contractor, trouble man , operational electrical engineer, journeyman lineman, or electrical distribution technician. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in electric utility distribution system maintenance, construction, and operations. Demonstrated experience with storm response protocols and emergency electrical restoration within an Incident Command Structure. Strong understanding of electrical codes, safety standards, and utility infrastructure. Minimum of five (5) years of experience communicating with utility customers. Ability to travel throughout Florida on short notice and work irregular hours, including nights and weekends. Valid driver’s license. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience working with utility companies or emergency response teams. Prior experience leading contractors in an operational setting. Certifications in electrical safety, disaster recovery, or storm response. Physical Requirements Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions. Physical stamina to perform fieldwork and carry equipment. Compensation This is a non-exempt position. Hanson offers a competitive hourly rate ranging from $40 to $75 per hour , based on experience. Travel expenses are reimbursed.
